The History of Recipes

During the next few hundred years, the powerful and rich houses competed to offer the most exotic banquets, and as a consequence, the best cooks and their recipes increased in prestige. However, it was during the nineteenth century that fine cooking and cookery books reached a high level of popularity. Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the USA, devoted their lives to collating, testing, and writing down the recipes of their peers.

By the advent of the 1900s, cook books were in great demand, due to more people being able to read, people having more spare time and a general increase in wealth.

Like it or not, the introduction of TV gave us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books.
