Angel Food Snack Recipe

Ingredients

1 angel
2 pt strawberries
1 (12 oz.) cool whip
1 food cake


Directions

Cut angel food cake into 2 layers. Place layer on bottom then put 1/2
strawberries and 1/2 of Cool Whip. Repeat. Chill before serving.

The History of Recipes

It is quite feasible to follow the history of recipes back into history, in truth as far back as the Egyptians, and maybe further still. However, sadly, these early records were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.

Interestingly, the most ancient recipe discovered, according to academics is a collection of stone tablets in Sumerian which describe the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making those who drank it feel blissful and exhilarated.

Moving on, there are two interesting recipe books from the 14th Century : a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are not about the indian curry that is served today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich people of those days.

Later, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from the holy land, including parsley, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an increase in books on cooking, the majority of which are now in academic collections.

During the next few hundred years, the wealthy families of Wesstern Europe tried to offer the best banquets, and consequentially the best cooks and their collection of recipes were much in demand. Nevertheless, it was during the nineteenth century that fine cooking and cookery books became popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, dedicated their lives to collating, trying out, and writing down the recipes that were being prepared for the better households.

By the time we get to the twentieth century, recipe publications are starting to become popular due to better eduction, people having more leisure time and having more disposable income.

Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books.

And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through thousands of recipes like those on sites such as this.
