The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to prove the history of recipes back into history, in fact as far into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe further still. Having said that, in the main part, these early records were just primitive hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
Closer to modern times, there are some books which date from the 14th Century - a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menues of the rich and powerful of the period. By the time we get to the twentieth century, recipe publications are greatly in demand mostly due to increased literacy, people having more spare time and having more money to spend. |
