The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of recipes far back into the distant past, in truth as far into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, these, old recipes were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
As we move on, we find two interesting recipe books which appeared in the fourteenth century : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these are not about the indian curry that we all know today, but instead recipes for the types of food cooked for the rich and wealthy people of those days. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices like parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices caused a torrent in books on cookery, the majority of which are now in private libraries. The revolution that is television gave us celebrity TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to search through thousands of recipes just like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Microwave Lime Custard recipe.
