The History of Recipes
We can read the history of `recipes` back into history, in fact as far as early Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, mostly, these ancient cook books were just very basic pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
Later on, there are two books which were published in the fourteenth century - a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these have no connection with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of food on the menues of the rich and wealthy people of that period. Later on in the 1400s, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices like coriander, parsley, and basil. The introduction of these new foods and spices prompted an explosion in books on cookery, most of which are now in academic collections. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this 24 Hour Salad recipe.
