The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be observed back into the distant past, certainly as far into history as the Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. However, mostly, these early cook books were just simple pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are a couple of interesting recipe books from the fourteenth century ; a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books have no connection with the curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather accounts of the types of food on the tables of the rich and wealthy people of the period. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods, spices and herbs from the East, including spices like parsley and basil. These new herbs and spices created an explosion in manuscripts on cooking, most of which still exist in private cookery archives. The arrival of TV brought us cooking programs and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Angel's Pasta recipe.
