The History of Recipes
Historians have tracked the existance of recipes way back into ancient history, certainly as far as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. However, in the main part, these early recipes were just very basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Closer to modern times, we find a couple of interesting books which were published in the 14th Century ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books have no connection with the indian curry that we all know today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of the period. By the time we get to the twentieth century, cookbooks were in high demand, mostly as a result of better eduction, people having more spare time and a general increase in wealth. |
