The History of Recipes
Food historians have traced the existance of recipes way back into the distant past, at least as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. However, generally, these old records were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are a couple of interesting books which date from the fourteenth century ; a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these are nothing to do with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of food prepared by the chefs of the rich people of the period. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many spices and herbs from Arab countries, including spices like rosemary and coriander. These new foods and spices prompted a surge in books on cookery, most of which still exist in academic collections. Like it or not, the introduction of television brought us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access thousands of recipes just like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Apple Crunch Pie With Cinnamon Ice Cream recipe.
