BEST BREAD MACHINE CB EVER
2 1/4 tsp yeast
1 7/8 cup bread flour
1 1/2 cup rye flour
1/3 cup cracked wheat
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp caraway seeds
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 medium onions, chopped
1 large apples, chopped
3 tbsp butter
1/2 cup water
Directions
Bring all ingredients to room temperature and pour into bakery, in
order. Set "baking control" at 10 o'clock. Select "white bread" and
push Start.
In hot & humid weather, use 1/8 c less water.
This barely sweet, fruity rye tastes good with scrambled eggs or in a
turkey sandwich. For tea sandwiches, slice thin and spread with cream
cheese and toasted sliced almonds.

The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be found back into the distant past, in fact as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, in the main part, these ancient recipes were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire around 25BC a man called Apicius assembled a number of documents showing how to cook the recipes enjoyed by wealthy roman citizens. In his scrolls, he tells us how the roman meals were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and dessert, something we still use today. Additionally, he tells us how the ancient cooks used a wide range of spices, including some familiar names such as bay, fennel and asafoetida. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices like basil and coriander. These new foods and spices created an explosion in manuscripts on food, most of which still exist in academic collections. When we get to the 1900s, recipe publications were greatly in demand mostly as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having increased leisure time and having more disposable income. |
