The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be traced back into the far past, at least as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these old cook books were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have some recipe books published in the fourteenth century : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these books are nothing to do with the indian food that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared for the rich people of that period. When we get to the 20th century, cooking publications are in great demand, as a result of better eduction, people having increased free time and having more money to spend. |
