The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of written cooking instructions far back into antiquity, at least as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, these, early cook books were just simple pictorial instructions for food preparation.
Moving on, we find a couple of interesting books which appeared in the 1300s : a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they have no connection with the spicy food that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and wealthy people of the period. By the advent of the 1900s, cook books are in high demand, mostly as a result of increased literacy, more free time and being a little richer. |
