The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be observed way back into distant history, in truth as far back into history as early Egypt, and possibly even further than that. However, generally, these early cookbooks were just simple pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were a couple of interesting cookery books which appeared in the 14th Century - a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are unconnected to the spicy food that we all know today, but instead accounts of the types of food cooked for the upper classes of the time. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery publications were increasing in popularity mostly as a result of more people being able to read, people having more free time and having more money to spend. |
