The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to prove the history of transcribed cooking instructions way back into the distant past, certainly as far back as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old recipes were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were some books dating from the fourteenth century : one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of food eaten by the rich people of the period. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery publications are greatly in demand due to increased literacy, more leisure time and having more money. |
