The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be traced way back into the far past, in fact as far into history as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these old cookbooks were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
As we move on, we have two recipe books published in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books are unconnected to the indian curry that appears on menues today, but rather recipes for the types of meals on the menues of the rich and wealthy people of that period. By the advent of the 20th century, cooking books are in great demand, as a result of better eduction, more leisure time and having more money to spend. |
