The History of Recipes
We can track the history of written recipes far back into history, in fact as far back into history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these early records were just basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
Progressing into The time of the romans 25BC a roman called Apicius created a number of documents showing how to cook the recipes enjoyed by his fellow Romans. In his works, Apicius recounts how the roman meals were separated into hors d`oeuvre, entrees and desserts, a very modern way of dining. Additionally, he informs us how the ancient chefs used many different herbs and spices, including some that we all recognise for example basil, mint and asafoetida. Over the next few centuries, the families of Europe strove to serve up the most exotic banquets, and because of this cooks and their collection of recipes were much in demand. Even so, it wasn`t until the 1800s that cookery and cookery books became popular. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated their lives to assembling, verifying, and recording recipes common in their social group. The introduction of television gave us TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through thousands of recipes like those on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Barbecue Cubes recipe.
