The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of meal recipes far back into the distant past, in fact as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and maybe further still. Having said that, mostly, these old records were just primitive pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Later, there were a couple of books from the 14th Century : a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books are not about the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead accounts of the types of meals on the menus of the upper classes of that period. By the time we get to the 20th century, cookery books are greatly in demand due to higher levels of literacy, people having more leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
