The History of Recipes
It is possible to trace the history of meal recipes back into antiquity, certainly as far back into recorded history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that is, sadly, these early cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
Later, there are a couple of recipe books published in the fourteenth century ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these two books are not about the indian curry that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of meals on the menues of the rich people of the period. Later, in the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods and spices from the East, including spices like parsley and basil. These new foods and tastes created an increase in recipe books, the majority of which are now in private cookery archives. The arrival of television brought us TV cooks and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our web site. |
