The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of written cooking instructions way back into the distant past, certainly as far into history as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these ancient cookbooks were just primitive pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we find some books published in the 14th Century - a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books are unconnected to the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather accounts of the types of food cooked for the wealthy. By the arrival of the 20th century, cookbooks were greatly in demand as a result of better eduction, people having more free time and having more disposable income. |
