The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to follow the history of recipes back into the distant past, in truth as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe further still. However, these, ancient cook books were just simple pictorial recipes for food preparation.
Moving on, there are two interesting recipe books which date from the 14th Century - a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they are not about the indian food that is served today, but rather accounts of the types of food cooked for the rich people of that time. Later, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new spices and herbs from Arab countries, including coriander, parsley, and rosemary. The introduction of these new foods and spices was responsible for an increase in recipe publications, the majority of which still exist in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Bumbleberry Pie recipe.
