The History of Recipes
Historians have traced the existence of recipes way back into antiquity, in truth as far back into history as the Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that is, sadly, these ancient records were just very basic hieroglyphic instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there were a couple of interesting cookery books from the fourteenth century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are unconnected to the indian food that we all know today, but instead recipes for the types of food served to the rich and wealthy people of the time. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us many new foods, spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices like basil and coriander. These new foods and tastes was responsible for a torrent in publications on food, most of which are kept safe in private collections. The introduction of television brings us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this C.s.beef Stew recipe.
