The History of Recipes
It is possible to read the history of `recipes` back into the far past, at least as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. In practice though, mostly, these ancient cookbooks were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Later, we have a couple of interesting books dating from the 14th Century ; a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books are not about the indian curry that we all know today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals enjoyed by the rich and powerful. By the time we get to the 1900s, cooking publications were in high demand, mostly due to better eduction, people having more spare time and disposable income. |
