The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as an idea can be found way back into the distant past, in truth as far back as the ancient Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. However, in the main part, these early cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there are two interesting recipe books dating from the 14th Century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books are not about the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared for the nobility of the time. Later on, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new spices and herbs from Arab countries, such as parsley and basil. These new herbs and spices caused an increase in recipe manuscripts, most of which are kept safe in academic collections. The TV revolution brought us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through thousands of recipes like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this California Cheeseburger Pie recipe.
