The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of meal recipes way back into the distant past, at least as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these early records were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of books which were published in the 1300s ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, they are nothing to do with the indian curry that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of food prepared for the wealthy. By the arrival of the twentieth century, recipe publications were starting to become popular mostly as a result of increased literacy, leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
