The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to trace the history of recipes back into the far past, certainly as far as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further. In practice though, mostly, these old cook books were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Closer to modern times, we have a couple of cookery books dating from the 1300s : one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these have no connection with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather descriptions of the types of food on the menues of the rich people of that time. In the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods, spices and herbs from the holy lands, including spices such as basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes prompted an explosion in cookery books, many of which still exist in academic collections. Like it or not, the introduction of television brings us TV cooks and the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this California Shrimp Bowl recipe.
