1 10 3/4 oz can campbell's
1 new cheddar cheese soup
2 tbsp sour cream or yogurt
1/2 tsp dijon mustard
1 cup cooked broccoli flowers
4 hot baked potatoes, split.
Directions
1) In 1 1/2 qt saucepan, combine soup, sour cream and mustard; add
broccoli. Heat through, stirring occasionally.
2) Serve over potatoes. Garnish with chopped sweet red pepper if
desired.
NOTE: To bake potatoes: Using fork, pierce each potato; bake at 400 F
for 1 hour. OR microwave on high 10 1/2 to 12 1/2 minutes or until
fork tender.

The History of Recipes
Experts have traced the existence of recipes back into ancient history, in fact as far back as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these ancient cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Fascinatingly, the most ancient recipe discovered so far, according to Professor Solomon Katz, is a collection of stone tablets in the Sumerian language which recount the making of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making anyone who drank it feel wonderful. During the time of the Roman Empire a man called Apicius created a number of scripts showing how to cook the recipes cooked by the Romans. In his scrolls, he tells us how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvre, main meal and afters, a very modern way of dining. This early Roman chef recounts how the ancient cooks made use of a good variety of herbs and spices, including some familiar names for example thyme, mint and dill. Over the following few hundred years, the rich families of the West strove to offer the best banquets, and because of this the best chefs and their collection of recipes were highly sought after. Even so, it wasn`t until the 19th century that formal cookery and recipe books became popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the USA, dedicated years of their lives to collecting, verifying, and writing down the recipes of their peers. By the arrival of the 20th century, cooking publications were greatly in demand due to higher levels of literacy, people having increased free time and being a little richer. The introduction of television brings us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on our site. |
