The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be observed far back into the far past, in truth as far back as ancient Egypt, and maybe even further. Having said that, generally, these old recipes were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
During the time of the Romans a roman called Apicius created a number of documents which described recipes cooked by the Romans. In his works, he tells us how the roman meals were separated into appetizers, main meal and dessert, a style of dining still practiced today. He also recounts how the early Romans made use of many herbs, including some that we all recognise for example bay, fennel and parsley. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and herbs from the East, including spices such as coriander, basil and rosemary. These new foods and spices led to an eruption in recipe publications, many of which are kept safe in academic collections. The arrival of TV gave us celebrity TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Canta Lime Dessert recipe.
