The History of Recipes
We can track the history of meal recipes back into ancient history, at least as far back as ancient Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, generally, these ancient recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic instructions for preparing food.
Later, we have two recipe books which appeared in the fourteenth century - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menus of the rich and wealthy people of the time. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of foods and herbs from Arab countries, including spices like coriander, basil and rosemary. These new foods and spices prompted a surge in manuscripts on cookery, some of which are kept safe in private libraries. The introduction of the TV brings us TV cooks and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everybody to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Caribbean Fudge Pie recipe.
