The History of Recipes
Academics have found proof that recipes existed back into the distant past, at least as far as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, generally, these ancient recipes were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Closer to modern times, there are two interesting books which date from the fourteenth century ; a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books have no connection with the curry that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of food on the menues of the nobility of the time. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many spices and herbs from the holy lands, including spices like basil and coriander. The introduction of these new culinary ideas created an outbreak in manuscripts on food, many of which are kept safe in private collections. Like it or not, the introduction of television brought us cooking programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger recipe.
