The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to prove the history of transcribed cooking instructions way back into history, in fact as far back as early Egypt, and maybe further still. Having said that, mostly, these early cookbooks were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, there were some interesting books which appeared in the 14th Century ; a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they are nothing to do with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather accounts of the types of meals eaten by the upper classes of that time. By the time we get to the twentieth century, cookery publications are greatly in demand mostly as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having more spare time and having more disposable income. |
