The History of Recipes
Recipes as a concept can be tracked way back into antiquity, in truth as far into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early recipes were just very basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were two interesting recipe books published in the 1300s ; a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these two books are unconnected to the spicy food that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the nobility of that period. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery books were starting to become popular as a result of higher levels of literacy, more spare time and having more money to spend. |
