The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as an idea can be found far back into history, at least as far back as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, these, ancient cookbooks were just simple pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there were some interesting books from the 14th Century - one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books are nothing to do with the curry that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals served to the upper classes of that period. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods, spices and herbs from the holy land, including coriander, parsley, and basil. The introduction of these new tastes led to an outbreak in manuscripts on food, most of which still exist in private cookery archives. The arrival of TV brings us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to access thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cauliflower Broccoli Medley recipe.
