The History of Recipes
Recipes as a concept can be observed back into the distant past, certainly as far as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, mostly, these ancient recipes were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of cookery books from the 14th Century - a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these have no connection with the curry that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared for the nobility of those days. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from Arab countries, such as coriander, parsley, and basil. The introduction of these new foods and spices created a surge in publications on food, some of which still exist in private libraries. The introduction of television brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Cheese Ham Casserole recipe.
