The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be tracked way back into history, in truth as far as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, sadly, these old cook books were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were two interesting cookery books which were published in the fourteenth century ; a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are not about the spicy food that is served today, but rather descriptions of the types of food prepared by the chefs of the rich and wealthy people of that time. When we get to the 20th century, cookery publications are increasing in popularity mostly as a result of better eduction, people having increased free time and being a little richer. |
