The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of meal recipes back into history, at least as far back as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these ancient recipes were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Later, there are two recipe books dating from the fourteenth century : a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead accounts of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the upper classes of that time. By the time we get to the 20th century, recipe publications are highly popular due to more people being able to read, people having increased free time and a general increase in wealth. |
