1 can (14 0unces) sweetened conden
4 each egg yolks
1/3 each to 1/2 cup bottled key lime
1 each unbaked 9 graham cracker pi
1 whipped cream for garnish
Directions
This is mighty tasty and quite easy to make: Pre-heat
oven to 325. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together
sweetened con. milk and egg yolks until well-blended.
Slowly stir in the lime juice ( for more tart flavor,
use 1/2 cup juice), stirring gently just until
blended. Pour into pie crust and bake for 10 minutes.
Allow to cool at room temperature, then chill before
serving. Top with whip cream, if desired...I think
it's best with the whipped cream. Note: This recipe
leaves room in the crust for whipped cream. If more
filling is desired, increase the filling proportions
by 1/2.

The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of recipes back into the distant past, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early records were just primitive pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As we move into Roman times 25BC a man called Apicius assembled a number of scripts describing recipes cooked by the Romans. In his works, Apicius describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into appetizers, main course and dessert, something we still use today. Aspicius describes how the ancient chefs were skilled in the use of a good variety of aromatic flavors, including a few that will be familiar to modern chefs like thyme, mint and asafoetida. During the next few centuries, the powerful families of Wesstern Europe competed with each other to lay on the most extravagent meals, and as a consequence, cooks and their recipe collections were much in demand. However, it was during the nineteenth century that fine cookery and recipe books really came of age. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, spent years to collecting, trying out, and publishing recipes to allow everyone to enjoy them. The revolution that is television brought us cooking programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as this. |
