The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be traced way back into distant history, at least as far back into history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these old cookbooks were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were some recipe books from the 14th Century - a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books are unconnected to the curry that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich and powerful of that time. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery publications were in great demand, due to higher levels of literacy, people having more free time and being a little richer. |
