The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of transcribed cooking instructions way back into the distant past, at least as far back as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. Having said that, generally, these early cookbooks were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius wrote some documents detailing recipes cooked by his fellow Romans. In his scrolls, Apicius recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into starters, main meal and dessert, something we still use today. Aspicius recounts how the ancient chefs used a wide range of aromatic flavours, including some familiar names such as basil, mint and parsley. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought back many foods, spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new culinary ideas led to an explosion in publications on food, many of which are kept safe in private libraries. The arrival of television gave us TV cookery programs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting us all to access thousands of recipes just like those on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Lassi (Yogurt Drink) recipe.
