The History of Recipes
Experts have tracked the existance of recipes back into history, certainly as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old records were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
As we move into Roman times around 25BC a man called Apicius compiled a few scripts showing how to cook the recipes prepared by the Romans. In his scrolls, he describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvre, main meal and dessert, something we still use today. Aspicius recounts how the Romans used many spices, including many that are still in use today like bay, mint and parsley. During the following few centuries, the wealthy families of Wesstern Europe strove to lay on the best banquets, and as a result the best chefs and their recipe collections increased in prestige. However, it wasn`t until the 19th century that fine cookery and recipe collections rose to prominence. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, dedicated their lives to collecting, testing, and recording recipes to allow everyone to enjoy them. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting everyone to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Lime Chicken Shish Kabob^ recipe.
