The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of written recipes back into distant history, in fact as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. In practice though, in the main part, these early cook books were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
Later, we have a couple of books dating from the 1300s ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they have no connection with the indian food that is served today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of that time. By the time we get to the 20th century, cooking publications were starting to become popular due to better eduction, more spare time and being a little richer. |
