1 2 chicken breasts -- split
Directions
4 TB Oil
4 TB Butter
1/4 c Sweet vermouth
40 c Garlic; peeled -- whole
Melt butter in frying pan. Add oil. Brown chicken well on both
sides. Remove chicken. Add garlic and saute for about a minute. Add
dry vermouth. Stir. Put chicken back in the pan on top of garlic.
Cover and simmer about one hour, turning chicken every once in a
while. When done serve chicken with cloves of garlic. Garlic will pop
out of the shell easily and you can either mash it onto some hot
bread or eat it plain with the chicken. The garlic carmelizes when
cooked with the vermouth and it is almost sweet-tasting. Good luck
and I hope you enjoy this!!

The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to prove the history of recipes back into distant history, in truth as far as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. Having said that, these, old records were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Closer to modern times, we have a couple of cookery books which date from the fourteenth century : a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books have no connection with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared for the rich and powerful of the time. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of spices and herbs from the East, including spices like parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations led to an explosion in manuscripts on cookery, many of which still exist in private collections. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us TV cooks and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to access thousands of recipes like those on the site you are now reading. |
