The History of Recipes
We can read the history of written recipes way back into antiquity, in fact as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, sadly, these early cook books were just very simple pictorial instructions for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have a couple of interesting books published in the 14th Century ; a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these have no connection with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals served to the nobility of those days. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from Arab countries, including parsley and basil. These new herbs and spices prompted an explosion in recipe books, most of which still exist in private collections. The arrival of TV brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to access thousands of recipes like those on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this A Bloomin' Onion Sauce & Dip recipe.
