The History of Recipes

For the decades that followed, the rich and powerful families of Europe tried to offer the most exotic banquets, and as a consequence, the best cooks and their recipes were greatly in demand. Even so, it wasn`t until the nineteenth century that formal cookery and recipe collections rose to prominence. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and Fannie Farmer in the US, dedicated the best years of their lives to collating, testing, and recording the recipes of their peers.

By the time we get to the 1900s, cookery publications are starting to become popular due to more people being able to read, people having more leisure time and having more money.

The arrival of television brings us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books.

And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on this site.
