The History of Recipes
Academics have traced the existance of recipes way back into antiquity, at least as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, these, ancient recipes were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there were a couple of interesting books which appeared in the 1300s ; a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these are nothing to do with the curry that is familiar to us all today, but instead accounts of the types of meals cooked for the rich and wealthy people of that period. In the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods and herbs from the holy land, such as basil and coriander. The introduction of these new culinary ideas prompted an outbreak in manuscripts on cooking, many of which are kept safe in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of television brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Apple Noodle Kugel recipe.
