The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as an idea can be tracked way back into the far past, in truth as far into history as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe further still. However, these, early records were just basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have two interesting recipe books which date from the 14th Century : a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these have no connection with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich and wealthy people of that time. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new foods and spices prompted an explosion in books on cooking, many of which are kept safe in private libraries. The TV revolution brings us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Asian Noodle Salad With Chilies & Peanuts recipe.
