1 tbsp dead ripe, almost black banana

What can I say except mush together with a fork. Most babies adore
this combination, but avocados are high in unsaturated fat, so go

The History of Recipes
Food historians have proved the existance of recipes far back into distant history, in truth as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe further still. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old recipes were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for preparing food.
The truth of the matter is, the most ancient recipe in existence, according to experts in ancient history is a series of tablets in Sumerian which show the making of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making drinkers feel `exhilarated, wonderful and blissful`. As we move into Roman times 25BC a roman called Apicius created a number of documents showing how to cook the recipes enjoyed by wealthy Romans. In his publication, Apicius describes how the roman meals were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and dessert, a style of dining still practiced today. He also recounts how the ancient chefs made use of a wide range of aromatic flavours, including a few you will know such as bay, rue and asafoetida. During the next few centuries, the families of Europe strove to serve the most exotic meals, and as a consequence, cooks and their collection of recipes increased in prestige. Notwithstanding that, it wasn`t until the 19th century that formal cookery and recipe collections became popular. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated the best years of their lives to assembling, trying out, and publishing popular recipes of the day. By the advent of the 20th century, cookbooks were greatly in demand mostly due to more people being able to read, people having more spare time and a general increase in wealth. The revolution that is television gave us TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
