The History of Recipes
We are able to trace the history of `recipes` way back into the far past, at least as far back into history as the ancient Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that maybe, these, early recipes were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
The truth of the matter is, the oldest recipe discovered so far, according to food historians are a few ancient tablets in ancient Sumerian describing the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made anyone who tried it feel exhilarated and blissful. As we move on, we have some recipe books which date from the fourteenth century - a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these books have no connection with the indian food that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of meals cooked for the rich and powerful. During the next few centuries, the upper-class families of Wesstern Europe competed with each other to offer the most exotic banquets, and because of this the best chefs and their recipes could command a high salary. Even so, it wasn`t until the 1800s that fine cookery and recipe publications became popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated the best years of their lives to collecting, trying out, and recording recipes that were common in the better off homes of the day. The revolution that is television brings us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Banana & Almond Cream Loaf recipe.
