The History of Recipes
It is possible to read the history of meal recipes far back into distant history, in truth as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, mostly, these early recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, in The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius created some scripts which described recipes enjoyed by the Romans. In his scrolls, he describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvre, entrees and dessert, known in latin as `Gustatio, Primae Mensae and Secundae Mensae`. He also tells us how the ancient cooks used a good variety of spices and herbs, including a few you will know such as thyme, mint and dill. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and spices from the Middle-East, such as rosemary and coriander. These new foods and tastes caused an outbreak in recipe publications, the majority of which still exist in private collections. The arrival of television gave us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Bar B Q'd Pork Steaks recipe.
