The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be traced back into the distant past, in fact as far back into recorded history as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, mostly, these early records were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there are a couple of books which appeared in the fourteenth century - a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these are not about the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menus of the rich people of that time. When we get to the 20th century, recipe publications were starting to become popular mostly as a result of more people being able to read, people having increased free time and a general increase in wealth. |
