The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existence of recipes way back into antiquity, in fact as far back as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. However, in the main part, these ancient recipes were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we find some books which appeared in the 1300s : a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books are unconnected to the curry that we all know today, but rather descriptions of the types of food on the tables of the rich people of those days. By the arrival of the twentieth century, cook books were greatly in demand mostly as a result of better eduction, leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
