The History of Recipes
Food historians have proved the existence of recipes way back into distant history, in truth as far as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these early cook books were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there were some interesting books which date from the 14th Century - a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the rich people of that period. When we get to the 20th century, cookery books were greatly in demand mostly due to increased literacy, people having more spare time and a general increase in wealth. |
